This short film is an interpretation of Israeli poet Aharon Shabtai's text, serving as a modern response to the ancient Greek poet Sappho’s musings on the conditions of beauty.
Set against the backdrop of a mid-20th century Israeli kibbutz, the film focuses on less conventionally “aesthetic” locations. Through these settings, the film seeks to find beauty in the ostensibly ugly, challenging traditional perceptions. The viewer is invited to explore these juxtapositions, and reflect on the broader themes of love, labor, and the pursuit of beauty within a collective societal framework.
The title, “Is it True" (Ha'omnam), derives from a well-known poem written by prolific Israeli poet Leah Goldberg (1911-1970) and addresses the same themes explored in the film.
